General Help and FAQ for Krynn

The realm of Krynn is a vast pit fighting and battling fantasy world. The system is really quite simple (if your not a referee), you exist, have fun, and occassionally slice and dice the brains out of a comrade or bitter enemy. However, it does get deeper then that. First we will deal with the idea of a character.

Characters are basically your own personality or idea of a personality put into cyberspace. Obviously, if your this far into mIRC that you have come across our blood soaked floor boards, you know this, thus, I will get to the point. (If you don't know what I"m talking about, use the pager on the Main page, or try to msg myself or a referee in #Krynn.) To use a character on Krynn that will be involved in combat, you must register them with a referee. Any referee can register you with the channel and start you on your way to becoming the Battle Master. Your information, and that of your enemies, is displayed through the "Characters" hyperlink on the main page. These pages serve a duel purpose. One purpose is for your own amusement and enjoyment, along with making sure your character is up to date, or to show him off to your battling buddies. The other, more secretive purpose behind the character pages is so that referees can access them when you should choose to battle. This easilly brings us to the battling section of our helping.

The battles on Krynn can be quite exciting and addicting. Basically, battling consists of the basic input output system of role play, except the referee is the only one who can output. If you are at all familiar with the types of online Role Playing, this is basically Free Form Role Play (FFRP), with the decisive twist of the referee at the end. In essance, a player would announce his move in FFRP form and the referee announces the final results in damage, if he hit at all. However, the battles occur in _ stages:

- Challenge

- Initiative

- Battling

- Victory/Defeat

The last one is pretty self explanitory, with very little in the way of player involvement besides partying or praying necessary. However, the first three I will delve into now.

Challenge:

The challenge of an opponent is pretty simple. Find an enemy or friend you wish to duel with in battle. Announce in channel a referee request, sometimes in the form or "~request". Soon as a referee appears, he will probably ask you to state whom you are challenging, then conform the acceptance of a challenge. After this all happens, the referee will disappear for a minute or two to gather information about yourself and your enemy.

Initiative:

The initiative is basically who gets to go first and how events happen. The referee will roll this in secret, merely informing the parties of who gets the first move in a private message. We try to keep all battle numbers and statistics out of the channel.

Battling:

The battling part is the meat and cheese of this channel. Basically, you announce your move and do it until the point of succession.. from there, the referee applies Krynn's Role Play system to the action and announces in blue lettering the success or failure of your move and how much damage, healing, etc took place. After such events, its your opponents turn, and so on until one of you claims "No Joy" or is defeated in battle. Either the claim or the death is a loss. However, computers be what they may, there is disconnects once in a while. Upon the rare event of a disconnect, the referee will start the "count down to destruction" in which you have 5 minutes to return to the game or an automatic "No Joy" is accepted by your opponent in your absence.

Victory/Defeat:

At this point, the battle comes out of moderated RP and turns back into FFRP.. to the victor goes the spoils, to the loser.. comes a nice prayer from the referee to the Dark Queen, Takhsis, to reserrect his weak body. Unfortunately, reserrection is quite hard on the soul, and thus you will no longer be able to fight in #Krynn until the following day. The victor, however, recieves a level up, a certain amout of hit points and magic points (depending on his Class) and 500gp for his valor.
